A&WMA Members, Associates, and Friends -
You are invited to Air & Waste Management Association's Central Texas Chapter's meeting on April 19, 2012.
Topic: Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant (HBBMP)
The April 19, 2012 meeting of the Central Texas Chapter of the A&WMA will be held at the Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant (HBBMP) at 2210 South FM 973, Austin, Texas 78725.
The City of Austin HBBMP utilizes an anaerobic digestion process to treat approximately one million gallons per day of solid wastes produced by the city’s municipal wastewater treatment plants. The City of Austin has initiated the Digester Improvements and Sustainability Project at the HBBMP to develop a renewable energy plant and enhance the efficiency of the biosolids digestion processes at the site. Modifications include changes to enhance the operation and efficiency of the digesters, improvements to the associated biogas capture systems, additions to the existing biogas cleaning systems, and an increase in the flare capacity at the plant to ensure safety and reliability. New biogas-fired electric generating units (EGUs) will also be installed to provide supplemental heat and power to the plant.
Hornsby Bend is also the home of the Center of Environmental Research (CER) and a featured site on the Texas Parks & Wildlife’s Heart of Texas Wildlife Trail.
Speaker: Dana White, Wastewater Regulatory Manager for the City of Austin
Dana White, Wastewater Regulatory Manager for the City of Austin, will provide a detailed description of the HBBMP operation and the changes underway. Although the construction at the plant will prohibit a tour inside the plant, an optional viewing of the plant will be provided from the nearby “hawk watch area.”
